sorry for the lack of updates...

on both my blog and flickr. I'm working on a whole bunch of stuff right now, I'm doing a follow-up to Slurricane as well as working on pieces for a new group show around august. couple that with my summer internship and I'm afraid my updates on flickr will be few and far between for the next month or two. but rest assured I am busy at work and will post any updates or developments about slurricane #2/the yet to be named show as they happen. thanks.

a big thanks to Mary Eisenhart over at the San Francisco chronicle for using one of my drawings in the writeup of "excellent condition!" If anybody has pictures of the opening could you maybe send me a link? I really want to check em out!

collaboration with James Bouche

This is part of a collaboration between me and printmaking genius James Bouche that was my final for Brian Garner's lithography class. We knew we wanted to do a collaborative print but we weren't sure what to do, so we decided to sit down and list all the things that inspired us or thought were cool in a venn diagram. then we would do a print based on whatever was in the middle, which I think was "the internet", "civil war generals", "pirate ship flags", and "military uniforms". in the end we made that print and also did a print of the venn diagram we made. we printed on two types of paper:

the first was this pinkish colored paper. this is the paper they use to make the wrappers for crayola crayons. I grabbed a roll they were throwing out at the factory that makes them while field trippin'

this one we did with a cream colored rives lightweight. we ended up using this one for the official prints we curated since it looked really good with the diagram print.
hopefully I'll upload more of my litho assignments soon

NERDING OUT RIGHT NOW

I finally have just bought myself a copy of Taiyo Matsumoto's No.5 volume 1, which I've had a hell of a time finding for under $50 up until now since its out of print or something. it especially tears me up because I remember seeing it at my local comic store when I was 12 and even then I thought the art looked dope enough that I still remember seeing it. I briefly flipped through it and considered buying it but then went and bought an issue of like gundam wing or a pack of magic cards or whatever the hell i was into at that time. Matsumoto is by far one of my favorite artists and a huge influence on me. he effortlessly combines all the good elements of anime with a European comic sensibility. His faces are what I'm most impressed with. they're so simplistic and cartoonish but at the same time read as really realistic expressions.
